NBN FTTP - Level 1 Checks

NBN FTTP - Level 1 Checks

The NBN Level 1 Checks for FTTP (Fiber to the Premises) are a set of basic troubleshooting steps to ensure that your NBN connection is functioning properly. Let's elaborate on each of these checks:

1. **NBN NTD Onsite Reboot:**

   - The NBN NTD (Network Termination Device) is the box installed at your premises that connects your home or business to the NBN network. If you're experiencing issues with your internet connection, one of the first steps is to perform a reboot of this device.
   - To do this, simply unplug the power cable from the NBN NTD, wait for a few seconds, and then plug it back in. This action essentially restarts the device, which can often resolve minor connectivity problems.

2. **Router/Firewall Manual Reboot:**

   - To manually reboot your router/firewall, unplug its power cable, wait for a few seconds, and then plug it back in. This action refreshes the device and can resolve network-related problems.

3. **Confirmation of NBN NTD Power Status Light:**

   - The NBN NTD typically has a set of indicator lights. The power status light is one of these. It can be in four states:
     - **Off:** If the power status light is off, it means there is no power supply to the NBN NTD, and you should check the power cable and outlet.
     - **Red:** A red power status light usually indicates a problem with the NTD's power supply or hardware. This may require further investigation.
     - **Green:** A solid green power status light indicates that the NTD has power and is functioning correctly.
     - **Green Flashing :** No action is required. The flashing light should turn into a green solid light shortly

4. **Confirmation of Optical Status Light:**

   - The optical status light on the NBN NTD represents the status of the optical fiber connection. Like the power status light, it can also be in four states:
     - **Off:** If the optical status light is off, it means there is no optical signal coming from the NBN network, which could be due to a network issue or a problem with the optical cable.
     - ** Red:** A red optical status light typically signifies a fault in the optical connection, please contact us for assistance.
     - **Green:** A solid green optical status light indicates that the optical connection is active and functioning correctly.
     - **Green Flashing:** A flashing green optical status light indicates that the optical connection is active and functioning correctly.

5. **Confirmation of Correct NBN NTD UNI-D Port:**

   - The NBN NTD often has multiple ports labeled as UNI-D (User Network Interface - Data). It's crucial to ensure that your router or network equipment is connected to the correct UNI-D port, as specified by us on provisioning notes. Plugging into the wrong port can lead to connectivity issues.
   - If you're unsure which UNI-D port to use, it's best to check the provisioning notes or contact us. We will confirm the correct port and help you with the setup.

These Level 1 checks are typically the first steps in troubleshooting NBN FTTP connectivity problems. If these checks do not resolve your issue, you may need to escalate the problem with us for further assistance.
